IIT-JEE (commonly known as JEE) is an engineering entrance exam conducted across India to provide admissions to premier engineering institutes. The exam is conducted in two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
Previously known as the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE), JEE Main is first of the two stages of IIT-JEE and serves as the preliminary exam for JEE Advanced. Until last year, JEE Main was organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) but it is now official that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main exam from the year 2019, taking the reins from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions. Refer to NTA website.
NTA has incorporated some changes in JEE Main 2019 which are mentioned below:
The top performers in JEE Main are shortlisted for the next stage, that is, JEE Advanced. The JEE Main score is used for the admission into the 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 5 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and several other Central Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). Some common colleges which accept JEE Main score are BIT Mesra Ranchi, Thapar University, Delhi Technological University, Punjab Engineering College, NSIT, etc.
